Sweet! How did the installation go?
great rig! what do you use to transmit the telemetry data of the engine onto the tablet? I am interested in this for sure. I am planning on taking the kid(s) on an adventure this summer and I am learning tons of things from your site. Thanks
We use an OBD bluetooth reader that transmit the data to our tablet. From there, the Torque app picks up the info and displays it on the screen’s gauge cluster.
Looking forward to hearing of your adventures! Safe Travels
What do you use for satellite/navigation and communication for the tablet?
We use Google Earth, Google Maps, Gaia GPS, All Trails, and a few others. We’re always trying new apps!
For the phone mount, did the hardware come w/ the product or did you get that separately?
Thanks,
-Chris
I think there were a few pieces that came with it, but I believe I had to purchase some of the pieces separately (like the washers, proper screw length, etc.)
Great post and awesome rig! What length self tapping screws did you use to secure the lower ball mount to the transmission tunnel?
Thanks so much! We used 1″ self-tappers on ours.
Do you need to worry about hitting anything when screwing into the transmission tunnel? I haven’t had that opened up to see inside. Or, is it necessary to open it up when doing the install for this reason?
It’s always a good idea to verify what’s under the carpet and what’s behind the transmission tunnel just to be sure.
Any interference with the GPS on the FTM 400 with that mounting method?
Nope, we’ve never had any issues.
How are you powering your tablet?
We have an Aukey Qualcomm 3.0 dual USB plugged into a Blue Sea 12V socket which is located under the console (near the 4wd gear shift area).
Here’s the products we used:
Where did you get the velcro strap mount from?I dont see it listed in your list. Also, Wondering how the new Ipad mount for the front chair would work.
I used these items from Amazon to setup my unit:
We are about to update our post again with another more stable option from Ram Mounts that will work even better! Stay Tuned…
Good stuff here…I have a stick wrangler so makes access to the center stack a little more crucial. I use 67 design bar on dash which uses ram mounts to hold phone but my 10 inch tab is too heavy for solid use from that. Love your set up…trying to figure out a way to make it work w the manual tranny.
