We commonly receive messages requesting details on some of the gear we use so in answer to that we are going to compile a series of blog posts in hopes that it will help in developing your own camping / overland gear kit.
Just so we’re honest, the other purpose of this article is to hopefully generate an bit of travel funds for our family by using the Amazon Affiliate links. The beauty of this is that you don’t pay a dime extra by using the links, but we earn a bit of “commission” when you click and buy from the links we share. It’s not much, but every little bit helps!
We are also sharing gear that isn’t available on Amazon so if you call or email these vendors after reading this or watching our videos, please let them know we sent you! It helps create other opportunities for us with those particular vendors (like potential sponsorship) which would help keep us traveling and making videos. Just so you’re aware, we are currently NOT monetarily sponsored by ANY companies so the reviews we give are from a user perspective.
One last note; all pricing is as of 7/3/18 and may change without notice! We just wanted to share a price here so you can have an idea of the actual cost.
That being said… on to the gear!

We’ve ran several different tents over the past few years but this is the flagship and our current setup. Screened Pop-Up Room
Brand: Gazelle
Model: 25500 G5 Pop Up Portable 5 Sided Hub Gazebo
Price: $164.25
Size: 7′ Tall, 8′ 9″ Wall-to-Wall
With our travels taking us to the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Alaska we knew there would be lots and lots of BUGS to deal with. We wanted a way to escape the swarms and have a bit of peace with minimal setup effort. This pop-up room deploys in under 60 seconds and returns to packed state in about 2.5 – 3 minutes. It has already been a life-saver in Utah and Idaho. The quality on this unit is top-notch and we feel it will last the constant use and abuse we will put it through.

AWNINGS
270 Degree Awning
Brand: Darche USA
Model: ECLIPSE 270 US PASSENGER SIDE
MSRP: $999
This new-to-USA awning is a complete game-changer. With the 270 mounted on our Turtleback we not only cover a sizable area on the side, we also cover the kitchen area so we can stay shaded and dry. We can walk from the rear hatch of the 4Runner to the rear kitchen or tent without getting wet. The integrated poles are a huge plus and the unit sets up and tears down very easily with the ample cover size.

180 Degree Awning
Brand: Darche USA
Model: ECLIPSE 180 US DRIVER SIDE
MSRP: $699
The 180 is mounted on the 4Runner and is perfect for popping out for a quick lunch in the shade along the trail or extra coverage at camp. Setup is super quick and the strength of the supports allow us to setup and tear-down in moderate breezes without too much fear of it taking flight or snapping like others we have experienced.

I’ve been following you for a few months and decided to purchase a 23ZERO 3 + PERSON BUNDABERG (QUEEN BED). Since your the main reason for my decision, I’d like you to get credit if you could provide a link. It would also be nice if you could include a discount code. Just FYI, I’m an active duty service member currently stationed in Colorado.
Thanks in advance and blessings!
Hey there! That’s awesome! When you order your tent just let them know we sent ya. There’s no special link for it yet, though that’s not a bad idea (you should suggest it when you call!). We are actually going to be at their Salt Lake City service center this Friday night for a meet-up / grand opening with Swell Runner too!
do you have an awning that would mount to the rear of a vehicle and then expand around both sides….is would allow rear cooking with the most protection
